Surrounded by his family, our Dad, Bernard (Bernie) Damien Lennon, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023 at age 85.
At the young age of nineteen, Dad emigrated to Canada from Barrow-in Furness, England in 1957 with a brick laying trowel and $50. Dad met Helen at a Christmas eve party in 1960. By February 14th they were engaged and on September 30, 1961, Helen (nee Sheremeta) and Bernie started their married life together.
Together they had four children, Christine (Louis), Patrick (Nadia), Nancy (David) and Sharon (Matt) and eight grandchildren Stephanie (Giananthony), Olivia (Calvin), Charles, James, Matthew, Carmen, Ronan and Elliot.
Bernie had many talents. He was not only charming and witty, he was also a gifted artist and athlete and a proud member of the Loyola-Ed Meagher Sports Tournament Committee for over 40 years. Bernie, with Helen by his side for nearly 50 years, was also very entrepreneurial. Together they owned a small business in Pointe-St-Charles and later in life, a family-owned elevator repair and maintenance company.
Bernie was, right to the very end, a people person, with a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed hosting and attending many friend and family gatherings and celebrations.
After Helen passed in 2011, Bernie was faced with several health challenges. Dad was fortunate to meet Beverley Kotania, also widowed, and they have enjoyed each other’s loving companionship for the past decade.
Thank you to caregivers at Charles Lemoyne Hospital, notably Dr. Cournoyer and to Dad’s long time oncologist, Dr. Ingrid Hings and to his family doctor, Dr. Marie Yaremko.
A celebration of Bernie’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov.18 2023. Family will receive condolences from 11:00 a.m. Farewell ceremony and blessing by Father Altilia to follow at Kane Fetterly 5301 Decarie Blvd. Montreal Quebec H3W 3C4. Luncheon reception to follow at same location. Valet parking will be provided.
