Teresa McConnon died peacefully in Montreal on October 28, 2023, the day before her 96th birthday.
Terry was born in Manchester, England. As a young woman she moved to Montreal, where she embarked on a long career as an educator. After a few years in other schools, she dedicated over three decades of her life to The Priory School, nurturing young minds and hearts as a devoted teacher, and as principal from 1969 until her retirement in 1995. Her love for education and genuine care for each and every student will remain forever etched in the history of The Priory. She will be profoundly missed by her Priory family.
After retiring, Terry devoted herself to many volunteer projects for the good of others. When she was 83, she developed a serious illness that kept her in hospital for a year. She then moved to the Vista Residence, where she was well known and involved in many ways, including the residents’ committee and the coordination of visits to the seniors by Priory students.
Terry had a deep faith and prayer life that permeated everything she did. She was cheerful, generous, matter-of-fact and courageous in the face of her failing health over the last years. Ten days before her death when she learned that the end was near, she reacted with her usual equanimity, proceeding to prepare to meet her Lord, call her friends to give them the news, receive visitors of all ages, and give instructions for her funeral.
Terry was predeceased by her siblings Fr. Michael, Rose, and Joseph, and is survived by her sisters Eileen IBVM and Una, her sister-in-law Mari-Ann, her nieces and nephews in the UK, Canada and the US, and her many friends in Montreal and across Canada.
Her family and friends will receive condolences on Thursday, November 9th, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, November 10th, from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Décarie Boulevard, Montreal, H3W 3C4.
The funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 10th, 11:30 a.m. at the Ascension of Our Lord Church, 375 Kitchener Avenue, Westmount, H3Z 2G1, followed by the entombment at the Eulalie-Durocher Mausoleum of the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to LINCCO (https://lincco.org/en/), a charity dedicated to sustainable progress in developing countries.
