Mrs. Hang Vanthoeun (also called Mrs. Ven Runnath or Mom Ven) passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 6 PM at the age of 87. She was born in Cambodia in 1936 and raised as a strong Buddhist.
Mrs. Hang Vanthoeun spoke well French and English. In 1955-1958 She graduated with BA of Accounting from France. She worked for the Government of Cambodia:
- 1958 - 1975: Chief of staffs at National Bank of Cambodia (over 1000 employees)
- 1979 - 1980: Officer of Cambodia Foreign Affair
- 1981 - 1984: Chief of staffs at Cambodian Royal School of Medicine
- 1985 - 1991: Treasurer of FUNCINPEC in Surin, Thailand
- 1992 – 1993: Chief of Cambodian electoral staffs, Oddar Meanchey polling station of UNTAC
In 1985, she fled with her family to Thailand. It was as a refugee there that she came in contact with Christians and dedicated her life to being a follower of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She believed that putting her faith in Christ was the only way to be saved and experience true peace with God. One of her favorite verses in the Bible was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
After her baptism into the Christian faith, Mrs. Ven desired to love God and love others as Christ taught her to do. And those that met her knew that this was true because her love for God and others was so evident in her life. Eventually Mrs. Ven returned to Cambodia and helped many in the Christian churches there before she immigrated to Canada.
Mrs. Ven is survived by her children (4) Ravy Runnath (Husband: Meng Kong Ung), Nara Runnath (Wife: Sokunthea Runnath), Narin Runnath (Wife: Sovannary Ouk), Ravann Runnath (Husband: Guy Foley), grandchildren (12) Richard Ung, Susana Ung, Chariya Ung, Rachel Runnath (Husband: Sokpanha Seng), Ezra Runnath, Esther Runnath, Deborah Runnath, Christina Runnath, Christine Runnath, Sorpanha Runnath, Soriya Foley, Victor Foley and great grandchildren (2) Manuel Panha, Keziah Panha.
