Obituary
Penelope Ann ''Penny'' Casey (née Lafave)
1939 - 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Penny (Lafave) Casey on November 29th, 2023, at the age of 84. As was her wish, she remained in her home, surrounded by love, where she had lived for 55 years.
Although her passing has left a huge void in our hearts, we are relieved that Mom is no longer suffering and has finally managed to “go home” and join her beloved Chuck who died just 8 months before her. Penny also joins her parents Dr. Jack and Doris Lafave of the Town of Mount Royal and her brother John, who pre-deceased her.
Married for 56 years, Penny was fiercely devoted to Chuck as well as to raising their 6 children (aka “The Big Red Team”) Colleen, Karen (Michael Krga), Kelly, Arthur (Yevgeniya Popova), Patrick (Jennifer Roach) and Kathy (Marc Johnson). We will always be thankful for the gift of the happy childhood they provided.
Their Ganny will also be profoundly missed by her 16 “angels”; grandchildren Daniel, Molly, Sarah, Michelle, Erin, Chloe, Meaghan, Fedir, Vitaliy, Ryan, Cameron, Sean, Noah, Ellie, Brooke and Zoe. Although they will certainly miss the steady flow of her famously delicious chocolate chip cookies, she will be most cherished for her unconditional love for each of them.
Penny will also be fondly remembered by her loving sister Diane (Chuck) Bissegger, as well as Marlene Lafave, Donald (Louise) Casey, many other family members, friends and lifelong best friend Barbara (Ernie) Briggs.
Mom spent her entire life selflessly caring for all who were fortunate enough to know her. Whether it be through her nursing career (proud graduate, then teacher of obstetrical nursing at St-Mary’s Hospital), her kids, other family members, her friends or whichever stray or injured animal that turned up at her door, there was never a doubt of who would be by your side when needed. Above all, being a caring mother and grandmother was of utmost importance to her. Her family was her proudest accomplishment, we feel privileged to be her kids.
From a young age, Penny was an avid skier and an excellent golfer. She was happiest with Chuck, at the family cottage in Val Morin, which was built with their teenage children, then generously shared with their kids and grandkids. She will also be remembered for her huge family suppers, love of children and animals, beautiful gardens (especially her geraniums), her love of reading, daily crossword puzzles, her kindness, strength, impressive organizational skills and remarkable energy.
We want to express our deep appreciation for the exceptional care provided to Mom. The collaboration and compassion shown by her caregiving team that included Carmela, Foluke, Ingrid, Ngozi, Sandra and Sherry…we can't thank them enough. We are also grateful for the unwavering support from the medical professionals who consistently went above and beyond in assisting Mom.
As we mourn our loss, we will also celebrate her incredible life. Visitation will take place at Belvedere Funeral Home (22025 Trans-Canada Highway, Senneville) from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Sunday, December 17th, immediately followed by a celebration of life at Corpus Christi, 16 Pacific Ave, Senneville on Sunday, December 17th at 1:00 pm.
