SIMMS, LILLIAN YVONNE (NÉE WOOD),f BA
September 8, 1927 – May 4, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lillian Yvonne Simms, (née Wood) in Montreal on May 4, 2024. Lillian had a full and beautiful life. Born and raised in Montreal with her two dear sisters, Janine (Boland) and Monique (Masson), Lillian shared sixty-six years of marriage with her great love, the late Reverend John A. Simms (1927-2020). Lillian loved people, and she was caring and vivacious, as well as private and discrete. She graduated from McGill with a BA in English, and for most of her married life she worked as a volunteer assisting the elderly at the Montreal West Presbyterian Church and the Montreal Association for the Blind. The latter recognized her service in 1999 with an award for her outstanding contribution as the longest serving volunteer.
Lillian Simms is survived by her three children, Lorraine (Michael Smith) Monique (Bertram Forse) and Andrew, her grandchildren, Catherine (Tim Mitchell), Kelly (Petrus Aucamp), Ione (Peter Doig), and Rowan (Danny Labrecque), and her many great-grandchildren, Genevieve Mitchell, Matthew Aucamp, Noah Labrecque, Dylan Labrecque, Beatrice Doig and Mavis Doig.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Montreal Association for the Blind (Habilitas Foundation) or a charity of your choice. A visitation will be held on June 28, 2024, at 3:00 pm. at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 pm. in honour of both Lillian and her late husband, Rev. Dr. John A. Simms. A reception at the Funeral Complex will follow. Further information can be found on the Mount Royal Commemorative Services page. https://mountroyalcem.com/
