Obituary
Rose Marie Cook (Bardwell)
1932 - 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rose Marie Cook, surrounded by her family at the age of 91.
Rose Marie was a proud mother of five: Gary (Alvin Lee), Brian (Elizabeth Kabbash), Karl (Anita Trabucco) Chamandy-Cook, Lisa (Fady Debbane), and Claudine Cook. She was a super cool and loving grandmother to Mark, Michelle, Eric (Sade), Paul, Alexandra (Joe), John, Kike, Mario, Kela, Georges, Laura, Catherine, and Cassandra. In the final days of her life, she was also a great-grandmother to Amelia.
She was a loving wife to the late Karl Chamandy and William Cook Jr., and is survived by her beloved sister, Josephine Abraham. Born on October 8, 1932, in Toronto, Rose Marie was the youngest of five daughters of Joseph and Rose Deratnay Bardwell, immigrants from what was then Greater Syria.
Our mother was tireless, known for her high energy and her ability to share love and compassion with family, friends, and strangers alike. She had a natural talent for lighting up a room with her warm smile, charm, and engaging personality. Her great sense of humor and showmanship stayed with her until her final days.
Sunday family dinners were sacred, bringing together her children and grandchildren, and always open to other family and friends. She created unforgettable Christmas memories with her surprise costumes and joy.
Rose Marie loved music and was a member of the church choir for over 60 years. She also loved tennis, last seen on the court at the age of 89. A natural athlete, she joined her husband William in jogging and golf, enjoying these activities together.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to her caregiver and companion of the last three years, Marie Matni. We also extend special thanks to the Jewish General Hospital, K7, and the Palliative Care units for their exceptional care and support.
Visitations will take place at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, on Monday, August 12th from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., as well as on August 13th as of 10:00 AM followed by the funeral services at the same location at 11:00 Am.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to either of the following: St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church or to the Music Therapy Program @Palliative Care Unit at JGH
