Pierre Boudreault
1935 - 2025
Boudreault, the Honourable Pierre, Q.C.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the Honourable Pierre Boudreault Q.C., retired Justice of the Superior Court of Québec, who died peacefully in Montreal on April 12, 2025, from complications linked to Alzheimer's disease. He was 89 years old.
Pierre was the son of the late H. Paul Boudreault and Madeleine Lachapelle. His sister, Louise Ferron, also predeceased him.
He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Betsy) Lewis and leaves his beloved life partner and companion of 32 years, Jennifer Hornyak.
Pierre will be deeply missed by:
· His loving children, Julie and Charles (Catherine Ieraci) Boudreault and stepchildren, Alexandra (Lindsay Riddell), Caroline (James Aitken) and Timothy Hornyak (Ari Taira).
· Ten grandchildren who brought him immense joy and pride: William and Victor Boudreault, Olivia (Dylan) and Nicholas (Sonia) Choquette, James Riddell, Clare, Jack and Ella Aitken and Kai and Sophie Taira.
· His devoted caregivers, Maria Lim and Fe Asteria Montiveros, who accompanied Pierre through his illness and were by his side for a decade. The family will be eternally grateful to them.
· Numerous beloved and loyal friends.
Born and raised in Montreal, Pierre was a graduate of Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Law and was called to the Barreau du Québec in 1958.
Pierre dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice and service to his fellow citizens. Prior to his judicial appointment, he built a respected practice as a litigator specialized in insurance law. Appointed to the Superior Court of Québec in 1976, he served with distinction for over two decades, earning a reputation for fairness, intellectual rigour, and profound respect for the rule of law. His time on the bench was marked not only by his sharp legal mind but also by a deep sense of compassion and humility, always bearing in mind his role as an arbiter in sensitive human matters, particularly when it came to issues of family law.
Following his retirement, he conducted private arbitration and mediation and served as the Chair of the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Québec in 2002-03, thereby contributing to Canadian democracy, a reflection of his deep pride in his country and citizenship. In the community, he served as a Trustee and subsequently Chair of the Board of the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation, on the Board of the Jovial Fish & Game Club and on various professional ethics committees, amongst others.
Beyond his professional and personal achievements, he enjoyed discussing politics, fishing, going to the cinema and travelling the world with Jennifer. He was known to enjoy fine food and wine, and, in this regard, he had a particular affinity for oysters and lobster rolls.
He will be remembered by all as a warm, loving, kind and generous presence as well as a source of wisdom and humour.
The family wishes to extend its deepest thanks to the staff of Saint Margaret Residential Centre for their professionalism, compassion, and steadfast care, particularly in Pierre’s last days.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 5pm to 7pm, and on Tuesday, April 22 starting at 1:30pm at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, QC, H2V 2P9. The funeral service will be held at 2pm in the chapel of the funeral complex. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory could be directed to the Canadian Alzheimer Society.
