Obituary
Nancy Lilian Bunge
1941 - 2025
Nancy Bunge died peacefully at the Chateau Westmount in Montreal on April 27, 2025 at the age of 83.
Nancy Bunge was born in Cornwall, Ontario in 1941 and was predeceased by her mother Bethia (nee Lewis) in 1991 and father Stephen (1952). She is survived by her 3 siblings: older brother John, older sister Susan, younger brother Steve as well as 8 nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. She remained close to her first cousin, Barbara Howard, for her entire adult life.
In 1959 Nancy attended Bishops University in Sherbrooke and finished her undergrad studies there. She then took a social work degree at McGill and worked for many decades as a social worker at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
Nancy had an independent spirit. She travelled often across Canada and to Europe to visit family and friends. She also travelled to South America by freighter. She spent many happy summers on the shore of the St Lawrence at Cap-à-l'Aigle (near Malbaie) with the Campbell family. Nancy loved the water and loved to swim. She also enjoyed art - trips to art galleries and museums were a regular event for her.
Although Nancy never had a television or a computer, she was an avid reader and was good to stay in touch with friends and family through mail and phone calls.
Nancy’s health had declined over the last few years after a fall and a stroke, so with very limited mobility, she had to move from her beloved downtown Montreal apartment to Chateau Westmount in Oct 2023. Her nephew Colin and niece Sara, helped to manage her affairs and care for the past few years. Grand nephew, Isaac, also assisted with Nancy in the past few years while living in Montreal.
It has not been determined yet if and when there will be a Celebration of Life. If you would like to reach out to Nancy’s family you can email: nancylbunge@gmail.com
