William (Bill) MacDonald Scott

1929 - 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, William MacDonald Scott, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in Pointe-Claire, Quebec.

Bill was born in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec, on June 6, 1929, to James MacDonald Scott and Elsie Lucile Galley. He shared a close bond with his younger sister, Lucile, whose move to Vancouver began many cherished cross-country visits filled with love, laughter, and the enduring connection of family.

In 1953, Bill married the love of his life, Elsa Donalda Barbara MacRae (Donna), in Toronto, beginning a remarkable partnership that spanned 72 years. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three children: Nancy (Jim), Peter (Natasha), and Andy (Loraine). Their family grew to include six grandchildren—Jamie, Lauren, Scott (Fabienne), Katherine, Jack, and Sarah—and, more recently, two great-grandchildren: Elena Claire and Charles William.

After graduating from McGill University in 1951, Bill began his career in Toronto, working for his uncles selling self-rimming “Monel” metal sinks—an innovation that paved the way for the modern stainless steel sink. It was during this time that he met Donna and began their lifelong journey together.

Bill’s career with CGC (Canadian Gypsum Co.) led the family from Orillia to Quebec City, where he became the youngest territory manager in the company's history. His work brought lifelong friendships and cherished summer holidays at Lake Portage in the Beauce—his favorite place on earth. Later, a three-year stint with USG took them to Chicago, but their hearts remained in Quebec, prompting a return to Montreal, where Bill accepted a role as National Sales Manager at Crane and the family settled in Hudson in 1967.

Hudson became home, and the nearby Lake of Two Mountains sparked a lifelong passion for sailing. Weekends were spent at the Yacht Club, and later, Bill and Donna explored the Thousand Islands aboard their beloved sailboat, Cap Soleil. In 1972, Bill left the corporate world to found his own sales agency, which remains a family business to this day.

In retirement, Bill and Donna embraced the snowbird lifestyle, spending winters in Sarasota, Florida, golfing, forging new friendships, and welcoming family for annual reunions that are now treasured memories.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Doyon and the compassionate staff of 3 West at the Lakeshore General Hospital for their exceptional care during Bill’s final days. In addition, we extend our appreciation to the excellent love and care he received at the Sunrise, Beaconsfield. Thank you to all of the team.

Bill will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to family, and his quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so dearly. We will miss him more than words can express.

Fair winds, Dad. We love you.
P.S. We hope the rum and cokes are free up there.

As per dad’s wishes, a small family celebration of life will be scheduled later this year.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Dad’s memory to the Montreal Neurological Institute.
