Condolences
Annabel, Johann, and Sebastian join me in sending our condolences to Aben's family. We were fortunate to meet Aben + Lise on their move to Hemmingford. Our chickens enjoyed Aben's e-bike rides to incubate clutches. Aben & Lise also welcomed my clutch of children; he is missed.
Dear Freya and family,
We miss our skiing and sailing partner! We had some great times.
We loved our visits with Aben. The kids fondly remember our trip in the forest with him, looking for mushrooms. He was one with Nature and his eyes always lit up with such excitement when outdoors. You will always be in our thoughts and hearts Aben. Much love from Jennie, Jason, Dodge, Jaiden, Jameson & Kaydence
Dear Freya
I am so sorry to learn of Aben’s passing. I was friends with him since our time at Bishops University in the 1960’s.
David
I met him in the mid 1990's, after the purchase of my first sailboat. Aben ran Shipwright Service, first based out of Lord Reading Yacht Club and then moved in the late 1990's to its current location at Yacht Club de Beaconsfield / Beaconsfield Yacht Club. Aben was Master at his craft.
Around 2000, he sold his business after being diagnosed with Parkinson's. He had bought a very nice house in Hemmingford and became one with the land and nature. He grew vegetables of every kind, raised chickens and rabbits, and even harvested the maple water.
In 2020, Aben wrote "Here life is good...in the country ... in this wonderful community where l have come to hang my hat for the past decade. ... our little valley here on Brownlee Rd is now all organic. ... now we're seeing birds that we have never seen before and while we are all caught up in witnessing mother natures healing power. Please be well and be happy."
New Zealand was his other home where, in his early life, he spent many years living the hippy life in communes on Coromandel Peninsula.
A dreamer, a great romantic, a very giving man, the gentlest of souls... Never without a toque at any time of the year. I was fortunate to have shared time with him.
We all know that Aben is stardust. Peace. With Love, Marilyn
Peace and love Bobby
I loved Aben. He was with me from the start of my life until I was 11 on a regular basis. I saw him twice again, in 1992 and again in 2007 when I travelled to visit and work with him in Montreal. His passing has very much affected me and I cried real tears as I watched his beautiful funeral. I send my love to my first friend Freya.
