Maciej Znojkiewicz

1939 - 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maciej Znojkiewicz, who passed away on December 3, 2023, at the age of 84 in Hemmingford, Quebec. Beloved husband of Maria Znojkiewicz, and cherished father of Kathia, Madeleine, and Pierre, along with their spouses Monika, Jean-François, and Marc, as well as his grandchildren Jacob, Kosma, Jonas, Lucas, Ania, and Jack. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity, kindness, and unwavering support that will forever be engraved in the hearts of those who had the privilege of being close to him.

Born in Kielce, Poland, Maciej immigrated to Canada alongside his wife, Maria. It was a journey of resilience, determination, and commitment to creating a better life. They subsequently supported numerous family members on the same immigration path.

As a father and grandfather, Maciej was a source of inspiration. He could see the beauty in small things. Despite a brilliant career as an engineer at Nortel, he found happiness in simple activities such as planting trees, cultivating flowers for his bees, growing garlic, making wine and honey, writing about his past, painting characters from ancient stories on stones, building inukshuks, gathering mushrooms in the fall, photographing light in tall grass backlit by the sun... With the help of a cousin, he built a house in the countryside with his own hands, on a large plot that was initially completely wild and inhospitable. Subsequently, he dedicated his life to beautifying this land, regularly hosting large family gatherings there with his niece.

Never forgetting his roots in Poland, he remained a constant source of support for his sister Barbara and mother Irena. Maciej demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his Polish family, bridging the distance through regular visits and maintaining a strong connection across continents. His efforts were crucial in bringing everyone together.

Despite his discreet, modest, and unassuming nature, Maciej emerged as a unifying force for the extended family. Maciej was not just a family man; he was a devoted friend, mentor, and supporter for many members of the Polish community.

A celebration of Maciej's life will take place at the Complexe Funéraire Mont-Royal on December 22, 2023, at 10 a.m. for condolences and 12 p.m. for the ceremony. Friends and family are invited to come together to remember and honour a man who means so much to so many.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the support received during this difficult time. Maciej Znojkiewicz will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he so generously gave throughout his life.
