Jean-Paul Demers
1931 - 2024
In Montreal, on May 21, 2024, at the age of 92, Dr. Jean-Paul Demers, retired ophthalmologist, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
Jean-Paul completed his classical education at Collège St-Laurent and completed his medical education at the University of Montreal. He did his ophthalmology residency in Detroit where he met his wife of 60 years, the late Dr Angik Markarian-Demers. Dr Demers was known by his peers as a true gentleman and also a pioneer in cataract and refractive surgery. He worked at Notre-Dame Hospital for almost 40 years as an assistant-Professor at the University of Montreal.
He leaves behind in mourning, his children Hélène (her husband Joe) and Pierre (his wife Ludivine), his grandchildren Jean, Alexandra (Justin), Mathieu, Nicolas, Sophie and Sienna, as well as his brother Jacques and his sister Jeanne, his nephews and nieces, Sonia,Yannick, Daniel, Lucie and Stéphane.
The family will welcome relatives and friends on Monday June 3, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for condolences at the Mont-Royal Funeral Complex located at 1297 Ch. de la Forêt, Outremont,
H2V 2P9. A reception will follow at the same location from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. According to his last wishes, his ashes will be buried in the family plot at the Mont-Royal
cemetery in the strictest privacy of the immediate family.
