Sherman Paul Touchburn, born in Torquay, Saskatchewan, Canada, on December 27, 1931, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on August 8th, 2024 at the Residence Ste. Anne in Ste Anne-de-Bellevue, surrounded by his loving family. The son of Claire and Ernest Touchburn, brother to Doreen, Deanna, and Jeannie, Sherman is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gisela, their sons, André and Eric, and daughters, Sabina and Jacqueline. Sherman obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree from University of British Columbia and a PhD from Ohio State University. He became a professor at McGill University’s Faculty of Agriculture, MacDonald College, in St. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, where he lived the rest of his life and raised his family. He served as Chairman of the Department of Animal Science and achieved the rank of Professor Emeritus.
Sherman had a passionate interest in collaboration with scientists from around the world. He participated in research projects in the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. He also taught students from many countries and frequently welcomed them into his home. He was an active member of his local parish, Corpus Christi. He was an avid and talented gardener. He also loved music from around the world and enjoyed many trips with his family. He loved all types of animals, not just the chickens and other poultry on which he was an internationally recognized expert.
Sherman would like to be remembered as hard-working, and as someone who took an interest in and loved many different cultures. He shared these values with his wife and instilled them in his children, and generations to come. Above all, he was devoted to his family. He was the truest of gentlemen.
A Memorial Service will be held at Église St George's Church, 23 rue Perrault, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, on Monday, September 2nd, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm, followed by a reception from 4pm to 6 pm.
