ALFRED E. STEHR
1933-2024
Alfred was born on August 1,1933. Son of Arthur Stehr and Bertha Naujoks, he graduated from the McGill University Business School. After graduation he worked in the family business, Western Filters, where he worked successfully to expand the customer base and streamline processes.
In the late 60’s, after the family business was sold, Alfred pivoted to real estate. He founded his first real estate company, Inter Realty, that excelled in property sales in the Laurentians. With his successes he then turned his eye to unique properties in the Golden Square Mile, the McGill University neighborhood, Le Plateau, and Saint John New Brunswick. Alfred always had an eye for the potential of a facade or a space that no one else could see.
Through the years Alfred’s attention to detail, and vision for a buildings’ uniqueness garnered him awards for his accomplishments from mayors and historical societies. Most notably, Architecture Montreal 1999, Heritage Montreal 2000, and the City of Saint John in 2006. His restoration of the Old Post Office was visited by HM King Charles & Queen Camilla in 2012.
Alfred was an avid lover of nature and water. He enjoyed the mountains of the Laurentians in the winter and the lakes of the eastern townships in the summer. It was common to see his windsurfer strapped to the roof of his car, off to a new adventure.
Many hearts will hold Alfred for his sense of humor, patience and sense of adventure. He is survived by his close companion of 27 years, Marie Guédo, his half-brother Christopher Stehr, nieces and nephews; Joanne, Stephanie, John and Connor. As well as his long-time family friend, Morgan Legge.
We are incredibly grateful to the staff of CHSLD Father Dowd who cared for Alfred with dignity and compassion in his later years.
Our deepest respect and appreciation is reserved for Maria Gonzalez for her tireless devotion and tender and loving care of our dear Alfred since 2017.
A token of sympathy can be expressed as a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Montreal or a charity of your choice.
