Nancy Thompson (née Farnam)

1947 - 2024

Nancy Thompson (Farnam) died the evening of July 12, holding her husband Tom’s hand, with her daughters by her side. She went peacefully listening to the giggles of her 5 month old grandson. Nancy was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and moved to Sept-Îles, Quèbec, when she was five years old. After completing high school in Sept-Îles, she attended Skidmore College in New York State before settling in Montreal.

In 1980, she met Tom and, after a few months of dating, she proposed, and he accepted. In August 1981, they married in a friend’s backyard, just a street over from their lifelong home in Baie-D’Urfé. Two daughters quickly followed. Nancy stayed at home while the girls were young, and later built a career at John Abbott College, taking on various roles over the years before retiring in 2014. During those years some of her happiest times were at the cottage on Bark Lake, racing sailboats with Tom, and then cruising the canals in their small trawler.

In her retirement, she cooked, rug hooked, volunteered, and spent time with friends and family. Nancy was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a fun and silly Grannie, and a kind and loyal friend. She was quick to laugh, easy to talk to, and a great source of unconditional love, strength, and support to all those lucky enough to be a part of her life.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but especially by her husband, Tom, her daughters, Katherine (Mark), and Anne (Eric), and her five grandchildren: Thomas, Isabel, William, Sophia, and Robert, as well as by her sister, Joan. Her family meant the world to her, and she to us. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to NOVA West Island, which provided support to Nancy, Tom, and the family over the past two and a half years.

A funeral service will be held at St Georges Anglican Church in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue on her birthday, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 3:00pm, followed by a reception at their home in Baie D’Urfé.
