Elias Karazivan
September 28, 1941-August 7, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we share with you the sudden passing of our beloved father, Elias (Alous) Karazivan.
Elias was a man of great wisdom and knowledge, a unifier and the pillar of our family through the generations.
Alous was Leila Adem's devoted husband and life partner of 54 years. He was also the strong "Baba" to Mona (Patrick Absi) Georges (Mylene Benitah), Laura (David Gladu) and John (Sabine Ben Maniar), and the helpful, gentle "Grandpa" to his proudest accomplices, his nine grandchildren: Antoine, Sabrina and Milan Absi , Dalia, Charles Elias and Louis Gladu, Olivier and Chloé Karazivan, and young Alicia Karazivan.
Elias was the eldest son of Naïm Karazivan (late) and Laurice Georgette Merjaneh (late). He is survived by his twin brother, Joseph (Maguy), his sister, Amal (Gabriel), his younger brother, Kamal (Ibtisam), his aunt Nelly Merjaneh Khandji, as well as all his cousins, their children and his large Adem family.
He was the confidant and listening ear of many of his cousins and friends in Montreal, Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
Born in Aleppo, Syria, in 1941, Elias came to Canada with his diploma in agricultural engineering in 1966, with the intention of settling and bringing his immediate family to Quebec: to "the best country in the world", as he liked to tell us.
An avid reader with a wealth of general knowledge and geopolitical opinions, he took great pleasure in recounting historical facts to those who enjoyed conversing and discussing the eternal conflicts of the Middle East and the world.
A master of pyrography and painting, he passed on his original artistic passion to his children and grandchildren.
After a successful career teaching high school students in the Valleyfield area, he retired and, in 2001, began his most important second profession: that of "grandpa".
He was everyone's "on-call service", Grandma Leila's assistant, private chauffeur, baker, pastry chef, repairman, dressmaker and barber. He was always ready to travel or give valuable advice to help any of his offspring.
He was the happiest man on earth when all his family was gathered together to eat the good food he had helped prepare. Elias was an exceptional person with a heart of gold, and was much loved by many friends, colleagues and neighbors.
Elias and the entire family would like to thank Dr. Raja Hatem, cardiologist, for his invaluable help, extreme kindness and professionalism throughout the past years.
The family will receive your condolences at Urgel Bourgie Athos Funeral Centre, 1255 Beaumont, Vile Mont-Royal, on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 1 to 5 p.m. A little celebration with Father Georges Zabarian will take place around 5 p.m. to honor his passage and his life on this earth.
Rest in peace Baba, watch over us. We love you very much.
