Obituary
Gaëtane Blais
1949 - 2024
We are terribly saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, Gaëtane Blais, 75, on September 5th, 2024, in the Town of Mount-Royal. Her sudden and unexpected passing has left behind many in grief, including her beloved children Patrick, Virginia (Brian), Vanessa (Gabriel), and her cherished grandchildren Asher and Nathaniel. She leaves behind her siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews, along with her friends, former co-workers, and neighbors. Gaëtane was predeceased by her former husband and best friend James Dewar in 2016.
Like the butterflies that she was so fond of, Gaëtane went through many metamorphoses in her life, and they carried her from place to place. From childhood on a farm in Authier, in Abitibi, to Verdun and Montreal as an adolescent and young adult, and finally to the Town of Mount-Royal as a young mom, which she loved and where she would stay. Through all her challenges and significant life events, there was always a common thread: her warmth, her generosity, her determination, her faith in life and love, and her firm belief that what mattered to her the most in life were her children and grandchildren. Everything else was just the icing on the cake. She loved people, she loved to gather, and she loved to laugh. Gaëtane was never idle – always busy, always moving. Whether it was walking or yoga or reading or learning new things or taking classes or visiting friends or baking things for others. She was compassionate, open-minded and thoughtful. She loved deeply, and completely committed herself to those she cared about with warmth and a tenacity that could not be matched. We will be forever grateful for it, and for the legacy of generosity, kindness and love that she leaves behind. Not only was Gaëtane the best mother in the world, she was also a best friend. All those whose lives she touched will feel the absence of the light she emanated, and our world won’t ever be quite the same again. Those of us loved by Gaëtane will be forever grateful that she chose to share her light with us.
Visitation and reception will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm Sunday October 20th, 2024, at Kane & Fetterly – 5301 Boul. Décarie, Montreal Quebec H3W 3C4.
