Obituary

Jacinta Cunningham

1953 - 2025

It is with a heavy heart to share the passing of Jacinta “Jac” Cunningham.

The liveliest member of our family; a fun-loving friend, sister, aunt, wife and mother. Her radiant smile lit up any room she entered, and her generosity knew no bounds.

Jacinta was one of six children, born on July 23, 1953 to Annie Keane and Arthur Cunningham in Gomea, a region within the northern part of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

She attended Gomea Methodist primary school, graduating to Marriaqua Secondary School, then transferring to their Business Sector, receiving a Diploma in Office Arts Technology.

She immigrated to Canada in 1974 and joined the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Association, she then went on to study at Marie Victorin College, receiving a Diploma in Specialized Education, inspiring a 28 year career as Resident Supervisor at Batshaw Youth and Family Centres.

After three years in retirement, in 2021 Jacinta was diagnosed with late stage three Ovarian Cancer, in addition to the inherited BRCA 1 gene, which is predisposition to developing breast and ovarian cancers.

Following four years of surgery and three rounds of treatment, she began to rapidly decline in January, transitioning into hospice on March 25th, and tragically passing away Friday afternoon, March 28th.

She left knowing she was protected and loved...

She is survived by her children Bert Cunningham and Charlene Mc Farlane; grandchildren Azaan Mc Farlane; and siblings Jeanette Kean, Norma and Arthur Cunningham. She reunites with husband Alfred Nembhard, and siblings Lucy, Mary and Frances Cunningham.

Following her diagnoses, she was protected by a shield of strength, hope and kindness by her daughter Charlene, and niece Faye Cummings, and her support circle of Claudette Blaschke, Maureen John and her daughter Vanessa.

Her immediate family appreciates your support, love, empathy, kindness and compassion during this difficult time. Many of them did not get to spend the kind of time they wanted with her in the end.

We are asking everyone to please consider that we are still in shock with the speed of her decline, and have yet to process her passing. We are asking to respect our wish for privacy at this time by refraining from communicating or publishing any information that has not come directly from her daughter and Executor of her estate, Charlene Mc Farlane.

Special thank-yous to the MUHC Gynecological-Oncology Department and staff: Dr. Lucy Gilbert, Dr. Victoria Mandilaras, and Magdala Faustin, Pivot Nurse.

Please consider a donation in her name for the Sault-Saint-Louis Palliative Care to continue providing FREE care and services to people at the end of their lives, and their loved ones, where her name will be added to the memorial wall to be forever remembered.

In addition to the Cedars Cancer Foundation & the MUHC to support equal access to transformative projects that will have an impact on cancer care and research.
