Margaret (Sui Ching) Wong

1940 - 2024

Margaret Sui Ching Chao (née Wong)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Chao (née Wong) in Montreal on August 14, 2024, in her 84th year.

She was the cherished wife of Tony, the much loved mother of Albert (Jennifer) and Susan, and the adoring grandmother to Andrew.

Born and raised in Malaysia, she was the youngest of eight, a beloved sister to Teresa, Louis (Betsy) and Benedict, and Moses, and is reuniting with her dear siblings John, Aurelia, and Rose, and her beloved parents, Bernard and Cecilia, in heaven. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

While Mom started as a dental assistant working alongside Peace Corps volunteers in Malaysia, she devoted her life to her family when she moved to Canada.

Mom loved to laugh and had an endearing way of being comical and seeing the funny in most situations.

She had a special gift for making babies smile, and a talent for sewing for her nieces and nephews when they were growing up. Mom was happiest being with her family, near and far, and loved nothing better than enjoying good food and catching up and reminiscing with all family.

Guided by her devout faith, she gave to many charities, the breadth of donations reflecting the care and compassion she had for all beings and causes.

We will miss her tremendously and carry her in our hearts.

The family will receive condolences at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Complex at 1255 Beaumont Ave, Ville Mont-Royal, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 privately with family from 4-5pm and then publicly from 5-9pm.

Funeral services and Mass will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the same location, followed by burial at 11:30am at Urgel Bourgie Cemetery at 3955 chemin de la Cote-de-Liesse, Ville St-Laurent.

For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Oratory, St. Patrick’s Basilica in Montreal, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice would be most welcome.
