In Loving Memory of Carmina Da Silva
On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Carmina Da Silva, beloved co-founder of Ecogold, passed away at the age of 83. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, family, and dedication.
Born in Barcelona, Spain, Carmina was the cherished only daughter of Ana Soler and Salvador Pedrós. She was baptized at the iconic Sagrada Família. Carmina spent her early childhood in Málaga before the family returned to Barcelona. A gifted and curious student, she excelled in school and developed a lifelong love of literature and history.
It was also in Barcelona that she met the love of her life, John Da Silva, whom she married in 1963. Together, they raised two daughters, Anabel and Patricia.
In 1980, Carmina and her family began a new chapter in Canada. There, she and John co-founded Ecogold, a company they built with passion and perseverance. Their daughter Patricia later joined the business and continues to lead it today as president.
Carmina had a lifelong appreciation for mystery novels—especially those by Agatha Christie—and a deep love for the arts, from opera to classical ballet. She had a natural elegance and took pride in dressing beautifully, even at home. Her warmth, wit, and delightful sense of humour made her a joy to be around. In her later years, she particularly cherished the company of her tuxedo cat, Agatha Kitty (aka ‘the cat’).
Carmina is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Anabel and Patricia; her son-in-law, Lou; and her grandsons, Victor and Adrian.
Her intelligence, style, humour, and generous heart touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 3:00 p.m.
