Harris Broadbelt

1938 - 2024

It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Janet on August 3, 2024, at the Nazaire Piché Residence in Lachine after a multi-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Janet will be sadly missed by her immediate family, her brother Don ( Nancy); nephew Michael (Suzy), great niece Gabrielle ; niece Andrea ( Richard); nephew Christopher (Stephanie). As a family, we recall many happy occasions at which she delighted in the adult company but focused most closely on talking with little Gaby.

Janet Harris Broadbelt

After moving from Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Janet graduated from Montreal West High School, the  McGill Institute of Education at Macdonald College and continued to her Bachelor of Education degree at McGill. She then embarked on a teaching career with a number of elementary schools of the PSBGM. Teaching was a vocation she deeply loved, particularly in dealing with children having special needs.

She was happily married to David Broadbelt, a well-known and respected athlete in elite American university hockey who passed away in 1999. Janet was an avid and very talented Bridge devotee, golfer and volunteer in seniors homes. She will certainly be missed by her players and many teacher friends. Janet was also passionate about dogs and loved each of her faithful canine companions.

Thank you to the exceptional team of caregivers at Nazaire Piché.

Janet will be buried in a private service at the Mount Royal Cemetery.
