Jan Machalka

1941 - 2022

Jan Henry Machalka from Calgary, Alberta, passed away suddenly from natural causes on November 29, 2022, at the age of 81. He died peacefully doing what he loved – enjoying a hunting trip with his friends in the mountains. He leaves behind his wife, Blanca; children Babette, Jan (Bobbie), and Michael; seven grandchildren and many other relatives.

Born in the Czech Republic, he and Blanca escaped communism to build a new life for their family in Canada. Their journey started in Toronto, Ontario for 11 years before moving west to Fort McMurray in northern Alberta, where Jan worked in the oil sands industry for approximately 30 years. He was dedicated to his family and community, beloved to his friends, co-workers and all that knew him. He was known for his friendly easy-going personality and his great sense of humour. He had many stories and loved telling them.

Jan was a hard worker with a strong work ethic and was always grateful for his life in Canada. He lived an authentic and honest life, providing for his family. He was a kind and generous soul, a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
