George Kokkinakis
1928 - 2023
George passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023, at the age of 95 in Montreal, Canada.
Devoted husband to the late Assimo (née Pavlatos). Proud father of sons Nick, John (Montserrat) and Stam. Loving papou of Sofia, Ariana and Jordi. Beloved brother of sister Katina (Sifi) and brother Manoli (Crystallia) and the late Nikos (Aggeliki), Yiannis (Ritsa) and Stamatios (Stella).
Born on August 4, 1928, in the village of Kourna, Crete to Stamatios Kokkinakis and Theano Kafkalakis. George survived the German occupation of Crete and later served in the Greek army for 6 years during the civil war. He moved to Canada in 1956, where he worked as a machinist for airplane engines for over 30 years. He was a true warrior with a loving and generous heart, fiercely proud of his Cretan roots. He will sadly be missed by all.
Viewing at Urgel Bougie at 1255 Beaumont Ave, Mont Royal, Quebec from 6-9 PM on Friday November 10th. Funeral will be held on Saturday November 11th at 10:30 AM at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral (2455 Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine). Burial will be at 12:30 PM at Notre-Dame-Des-Neiges Cemetery.
