Jean Rochon
1938 - 2021
Jean Rochon passed away on October 16th 2021, in Montréal at the age of 83.
In passing he leaves his wife Thérèse Morais, his sister Nicole Rochon, his sister-in-law Claire Morais (Jacques Saint-Pierre); his nephews and nieces: Robert Morais (Michelle), Sylvia Morais-Jones (Doug), and Michèle Furlong and their children : Mathieu, Marc, and Nathalie Morais, Michaela and Brandon Jones, Ariana, Elena and Liam Furlong and his god-daughter Elisabeth Reid (Sébastien Viau) along with his cousins, and a large number of friends and colleagues from work.
In 1970, he created and headed up the Department of Social and Preventative Medicine at the Université Laval until 1979. He was the Dean of Medicine at the Université Laval from 1979 to 1985, he then led the Province of Québec’s Commission reviewing its Health and Social Services from 1985 to 1988. The next five years he worked at the World Health Organization as Assistant Director for the European Regional office in Copenhagen (1988 to 1990) and as Director of Health Protection and at its Head Office in Geneva (1990 à 1993).
His return to Québec came with his entry into the political world as the MPP representing the provincial riding of Charlesbourg. Over the time from 1994 to 2003, he occupied the Ministerial posts of Health and Social Services, Research, Science and Technology, and Employment and Workers Rights. His post political life saw him contributing his diverse knowledge through participation as advisor and member to many committees.
The family would like to thank the medical team and staff at the Montréal Jewish General Hospital for the care and thoughtfulness provided to him.

In consideration for the circumstances and sanitary restrictions present today, the family will be receiving friends and family the 27th of October between 2:00pm and 6:00pm at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Complex - Mont-Royal situated at 1255 avenue Beaumont, Mont-Royal, QC H3P 3J1.
The next day, the 28th of October, the family will receive condolences from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A tribute ceremony will be held at 8:00pm in a reception room at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Complex - Mont-Royal. The Tribute will be available on a simultaneous webcast. Considering the previously mentioned sanitary restrictions there will be a rolling capacity limit of 50 people through the visitation. For the celebration of life the limit for seated places is 150.
Interment will occur at a later date with family.
